The red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta Buren, is one of the most successful invasive ants in the world. Previous studies indicated that benzyl acetate and prenyl acetate elicited significant electroantennography (EAG) response in S. invicta and exhibited as attractants at certain concentrations. In addition, the easy commercial availability, low cost, and low mammalian toxicity make acetate esters ideal candidates to screen for potential use in S. invicta control.
We examined the EAG and behavioral responses to 26 acetate esters in all castes of S. invicta. Our results demonstrated a large diversity of EAG tuning and behavioral responses to acetate esters in S. invicta. For linear alkyl acetate esters, EAG response was clearly affected by the carbon chain length of the alkyl group. Linear alkyl acetates with five to seven carbon chain length of the alkyl group elicited significant EAG response in S. invicta, whereas those with shorter (C1 to C4) or longer (C8 to C12) carbon chain lengths did not. Different substitutions also exhibited large variety of EAG and behavioral responses in S. invicta.

This article is a U.S. Government work and is in the public domain in the USA.This study describes the clinical presentation, treatment, and outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection in lung transplant recipients (LTRs). This is a multicenter, retrospective study of all adult LTRs with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from March 4 until April 28, 2020 in six Spanish reference hospitals for lung transplantation. Clinical and radiological data, treatment characteristics, and outcomes were reviewed. Forty-four cases were identified in that period. The median time from transplantation was 4.2 (interquartile range 1.11-7.3) years. Chest radiography showed acute parenchymal abnormalities in 32 (73%) cases. Hydroxychloroquine was prescribed in 41 (93%), lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) in 14 (32%), and tocilizumab in 19 (43%) patients. There was a strong interaction between tacrolimus and LPV/r in all cases. Thirty-seven (84%) patients required some degree of respiratory support and/or oxygen therapy, and 13 (30%) were admitted to intermediate or intensive critical care units. Seventeen (39%) patients had died and 20 (45%) had been discharged at the time of the last follow-up. Deceased patients had a worse respiratory status and chest X-ray on admission and presented with higher D-dimer, interleukin-6, and lactate dehydrogenase levels. In this multicenter LTR cohort, SARS-CoV-2 presented with high mortality. Additionally, the severity of disease on presentation predicted subsequent mortality.Psychodynamic psychiatry forms the fundamental theoretical frame of reference for psychodynamic psychotherapy and related therapies using psychodynamic concepts. Over time, it faced questions about its empiricism, evidence base, cost-effectiveness, and fitness to the medical role. Although recent studies have reaffirmed its effectivity in mainstream medicine, its clinical practice in the local setting raises questions about the Filipino psychiatrists' systematic understanding and orientation to it, and signals a call for action.
Attendees in the UP Philippine General Hospital - Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine (UP PGH-DPBM), 13th Post-Graduate Course on Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, participated in an informal survey to generate hypotheses on the knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes of Filipino mental health professionals regarding psychodynamic psychotherapy. One hundred eighty-two (182) respondents answered the survey and results were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Among the rehavioral therapy (CBT) in equal parts, 15% practiced mostly psychodynamic psychotherapy and 15% practiced mostly CBT, while the rest were either unsure or practiced other forms of psychotherapy. Most agreed that psychodynamic psychotherapy required scientific rigor and remained applicable, but were divided on treatment frame and boundary setting, approach selection, and specific concepts and techniques. In terms of perceptions and attitudes toward psychodynamic psychotherapy, most respondents displayed positive attitudes and interest in the intervention, but did not highly regard their own competence. These findings steer psychodynamic psychotherapy research toward the systematic review of the competence of trainees and practitioners, the standardization of its education and training, and its applicability in a cultural context of limited resources.The one-step syntheses, X-ray structures, and spectroscopic characterization of synthetic iron clusters, bearing either inorganic sulfides or thiolate with interstitial carbide motifs, are reported. Treatment of iron carbide carbonyl clusters [Fen (μn -C)(CO)m ]x (n=5,6; m=15,16; x=0,-2) with electrophilic sulfur sources (S2 Cl2 , S8 ) results in the formation of several μ4 -S dimers of clusters, and moreover, iron-sulfide-(sulfocarbide) clusters. The core sulfocarbide unit C-S4- serves as a structural model for a proposed intermediate in the radical S-adenosyl-L-methionine biogenesis of the M-cluster. Furthermore, the electrophilic sulfur strategy has been extended to provide the first ever thiolato-iron-carbide complex an analogous reaction with toluylsulfenyl chloride affords the cluster [Fe5 (μ5 -C)(SC7 H7 )(CO)13 ]- . The strategy described herein provides a breakthrough towards developing syntheses of biomimetic iron-sulfur-carbide clusters like FeMoco.
